Vancouver Comedian Charlie Demers Releases New Album “FATHERLAND” on 604 Records
VANCOUVER PLAYWRIGHT, AUTHOR, AND COMEDIAN CHARLIE DEMERS RELEASES NEW ALBUM “FATHERLAND” ON 604 RECORDS
NEW ALBUM FROM NOTED COMEDIAN AND CBC RADIO PERSONALITY TACKLES THE TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS OF BEING A NEW FATHER, AS WELL AS FASCISM!
Acclaimed Vancouver playwright, published author, radio personality and comedian Charlie Demers releases his debut album Fatherland on noted Vancouver independent record label 604 Records, tomorrow, November 10, 2017. Demers, who CBC radio calls “one of the smartest comics out there” has many achievements in the entertainment world under his belt. A regular on CBC’s The Debaters, Demers also provides the voice of Walter the Slug on the Emmy-winning Netflix animated series “Beat Bugs” based on the immortal music of The Beatles. Demers will be appearing during Just For Laughs Festival 2018 In Montreal.
“The album is two-thirds jokes about raising a daughter, and one-third jokes about Nazis, so I thought Fatherland was the best title to capture both of those elements!” says Demers in describing the content of his album. “There is even a joke about Nazi babies so there is a bit of overlap there” continues Demers. On the surface this may seem like an odd pairing of subject matters. “When I told Jonathan Simkin (president of 604 Records) about the two main topics of the album, he told me that he was offended by one of these subjects and that he was not comfortable releasing records containing jokes about being a father” Demers says with a laugh. Culled from multiple performances in Vancouver this past April, Fatherland shows Demers at his sophisticated best. Clearly influenced by the current state of world politics, the album brings a fresh and hilarious perspective to many of the commonly debated topics of the day such as racism.
604 Records president Simkin had this to say when reached for comment: “Charlie is a class act, pure and simple. The respect and admiration he has garnered in the comedy community is substantial and deserved, and we are so proud to be working with him on Fatherland.”
In addition to the album release on November 10, 2017, there also will be a livestream event in January with details to follow. The album will be available off of the 604 Records website, as well as all major digital retailers and streaming apps: http://smarturl.it/CharlieDemersFather
604 Records is on a roll with its comedy releases with three consecutive #1 albums from Kevin Banner, Shirley Gnome, and Gavin Matts.
