Seth Rogen is getting his Canadian flowers at TIFF 2026.
The Vancouver-born actor, writer, director, and producer will receive the TIFF Norman Jewison Career Achievement Award, recognizing Canadians in film who have made a global impact. Previous recipients include Catherine O’Hara, David Cronenberg, and Shawn Levy , so yes, Rogen is in very good company.
And he isn’t just coming to Toronto to collect a trophy and politely wave at a room full of industry people. He’s also bringing two projects to this year’s Festival: the world premiere of Babies, directed by his wife Lauren Miller Rogen, and the animated feature Tangles, on which he serves as producer and voice actor.
Canadian kid makes good, builds a global career, comes home for the big flowers. Honestly? We love to see it.
Seth Rogen’s TIFF 2026 moment is bigger than one award
Rogen’s career has never stayed in one lane for long.
He broke out through Freaks and Geeks before becoming one of the defining comedic voices of the 2000s with films including Superbad, Knocked Up, and Pineapple Express. From there, he expanded into writing, directing, producing, animation, television, and even the very Toronto-coded business of making beautiful glassware for Houseplant.
Through Point Grey Pictures, the production company he co-founded with Evan Goldberg, Rogen has helped produce projects including Neighbors and Apple TV+’s Emmy-winning series The Studio. He has also remained a recognizable performer while building a career behind the camera.
That range is exactly what makes the Norman Jewison Career Achievement Award feel right. It isn’t simply a prize for one iconic performance. It celebrates a Canadian creative who has shaped modern film and entertainment across multiple roles.
At TIFF 2026, Rogen will appear in Babies, the world premiere directed by Lauren Miller Rogen. He also returns as producer and voice actor on Tangles, Leah Nelson’s animated feature.

When and where are the TIFF Tribute Awards?
The eighth annual TIFF Tribute Awards, presented in partnership with Rolex, will take place on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel in downtown Toronto.
The gala is TIFF’s largest annual fundraiser. Proceeds support the organization’s impact initiatives, including access to cinema, artist development, industry leadership, community engagement, and year-round cultural programming.
So while the evening will have plenty of red-carpet glamour, it also helps keep the wider film ecosystem moving. A useful reminder that behind every starry TIFF party is an entire machine of filmmakers, programmers, artists, educators, volunteers, and movie lovers trying to keep cinema alive and interesting.
The full list of presenters is expected to be announced on September 9.
According to TIFF CEO Cameron Bailey, this year’s honourees represent a wide range of cinematic achievement.

Bassam Tariq’s Your Mother, Your Mother, Your Mother will confirm his reputation as a dazzling storyteller, and we recognize Adam Pietkiewicz for crafting never-before-seen images from one of the world’s most remote regions. And we will be forever grateful to writer, actor, director and producer Seth Rogen for sharing his wildly Canadian talents with the world.”
The final 2026 TIFF Tribute Awards honourees
Rogen joins four newly announced recipients, each recognized in a different area of film and entertainment.
Fan Bingbing : TIFF Special Tribute Award
Fan Bingbing returns to TIFF for the World Premiere Gala Presentation of Wayne Wang’s Diary of a Mad Old Man.
The award-winning Chinese actor, producer, and international festival juror has built a three-decade career across Asian and global cinema. Her credits include I Am Not Madame Bovary, which screened at TIFF in 2016, as well as X-Men: Days of Future Past, The 355, Green Night, and Mother Bhumi.
The TIFF Special Tribute Award recognizes an individual who has made an extraordinary and unique contribution to film. Previous recipients include Lee Byung Hun, Zhao Tao, Andy Lau, Jafar Panahi, and Zacharias Kunuk.
Helen Mirren : TIFF Share Her Journey Groundbreaker Award
Helen Mirren will receive the TIFF Share Her Journey Groundbreaker Award, presented by Joanna Griffiths and the Women of Knix.
The Oscar, BAFTA, Emmy, and Tony winner returns to the Festival for the World Premiere of Anton Corbijn’s A Talent for Murder, in which she plays author Patricia Highsmith.
Mirren’s career spans more than five decades, from Prime Suspect and Gosford Park to The Queen, Barbie, 1923, and The Thursday Murder Club. Her performance as Queen Elizabeth II in The Queen, which premiered at TIFF in 2006, earned her the Academy Award for Best Actress.
The Share Her Journey Groundbreaker Award recognizes women who have made a significant difference in entertainment and helped advance equal representation across the industry. Previous recipients include Jodie Foster, Cate Blanchett, Patricia Arquette, and Michelle Yeoh.
Adam Pietkiewicz : TIFF Variety Artisan Award
Polish cinematographer Adam Pietkiewicz makes his TIFF debut with Angh, directed by Theja Rio and screening as part of the Festival’s Platform competition.
Shot entirely on 16mm, the film marks another major step for a cinematographer whose visual background includes documentary and street photography. Pietkiewicz studied at the Krzysztof Kieślowski Film School in Poland and the National Film and Television School in the United Kingdom.
His credits also include work as a camera operator on Netflix’s Baby Reindeer and the feature Wrooklyn Zoo.
The TIFF Variety Artisan Award celebrates outstanding behind-the-camera craft. Past recipients include Roger Deakins, Ari Wegner, Hildur Guðnadóttir, Łukasz Żal, and Kazu Hiro.
Bassam Tariq : TIFF Rising Talent Award
Bassam Tariq makes his TIFF debut with the World Premiere Special Presentation of Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, starring Oscar winner Mahershala Ali as a devout family man and contract killer.
Tariq began his career in documentary before moving into narrative filmmaking. His work includes These Birds Walk, the Sundance Jury Prize-winning short Ghosts of Sugar Land, and Mogul Mowgli, his BAFTA-nominated feature debut starring Riz Ahmed.
The TIFF Rising Talent Award, presented by Amazon MGM Studios, recognizes an emerging filmmaker with a distinctive voice and strong future ahead. The award is inspired by Torontonian Mary Pickford, the groundbreaking actor, producer, and United Artists co-founder.

With Rogen, Mirren, Fan Bingbing, Cruz, Huppert, and the rest of the lineup gathering at the Fairmont Royal York, Toronto is about to become celebrity central on September 13. Because apparently the city needed one more reason to make downtown traffic feel like a prestige drama.
For film fans, the gala is also a reminder of how wide TIFF’s world really is. The evening celebrates performers, directors, cinematographers, producers, and rising voices : the people in front of the camera and the people making the whole thing look, sound, and feel unforgettable.
